Steam Punk Photo Shoot

A couple of weeks ago, I had the opportunity to participate in a presentation that promoted the Godox Flash system.
The presenter, Sherry Hagerman is the owner of Allusion Photography from Oakbrook, IL, one of the top wedding photography companies in the United States. She first explained and demonstrated the flash system and then walked us through the process of setting up the speed lights and how to set our cameras.

Two models joined us then, wearing cool steam punk outfits and for two hours we had the opportunity to experiment, shoot our own pictures, and test the flash system. Sherry is a good teacher – she not only explained the set up understandably for every level of photographer (even for beginners) but also gave detailed tips to improve the outcome of the shooting. The evening was held at Procam in Aurora, IL and was a very interesting learning experience. Although there were a lot of photographers at the presentation, everyone was very courteous and helpful, so it was easy to get the shots you wanted.
Here are some more shots I took:

A big Thank You, to the models, Nichole Latsis and Wioleta Wioletaw. You were awesome.

Of course, I had to play around with my editing software to give the pics an old flair. Here are the results:

Portrait Photography is still a new and unfamiliar adventure for me. I have a hard time instructing the models, so I often piggyback off another photographer’s instructions.
I enjoyed the challenge the event provided. However, I know I still need to improve on how to give intentional and precise instructions.
Still, I thought the pictures did turn out great. What do you think?

What are your strengths, and do how do you challenge your not-so-strong areas?
Tell me in the comments with what you are challenging yourself.

Live Inspired and Keep Shooting.
