Summer vacation on the island – Pictures from Puerto Rico

A colorful sunset from the roof top

Addition, Sept 28, 2017
I’m very sad to see all the devastation that hurricanes Irma and Maria caused in Puerto Rico in Sept 2017. I don’t even know if the apartment we stayed in is still there and right now there is no way to find out.

If you are interested in reading more about this and even help, here is a good article about it on VOX

I still have my treasured memories of the Island and I hope we can all work together to build it up again.

Blogpost from August

A light breeze, lots of sunshine, the ocean, and awesome sunsets in the evening …

What a treat to have some time in Puerto Rico during our summer vacation.
The ocean is always an inspiration for me, especially when I can hear, see and smell it all day long, dip my toes in the salty water, dig my feet in the warm sand and feel the light breeze of the wind on my face.
It has been quite a while since I was near any ocean, and so I enjoyed it even more than I imagined I would.
Of course, there was a lot to take in and I kept my camera close by.

Here are some of my favorite pictures from our adventure to the island.

The houses in San Juan have great colors, and it is a lot of fun to walk through these old streets, see the forts, read about all the history, and meet so many, very friendly people.

Colorful houses in San Juan, Puerto Rico

Castillo San Cristóbal, also known as Fort San Cristóbal, one of the fortresses in Old San Juan, Puerto Rico, was built by the Spanish as protection against the attacks on the city of San Juan.
Through the thick walls of the fort, we could see “El Capitolio” – The Capitol of Puerto Rico. The building houses the Puerto Rican Government, the House of Representatives and Senate.

Viewing the new through the old

On a Sunday Morning, we found this jewel, just a 10 min car ride – only two other people were with us at the beach …

Serenity on the empty beach

And some of these guys, called Green Iguana (a large, arboreal, mostly herbivorous species of lizard) surprised us more than once. They feed on the lawn at the apartment complex, or the huge trees.
What a sight, when they got surprised themselves and fled with an high held head, running on their two hind legs, and rushing up the trees.

Just sitting here was so relaxing – hear and see the waves crushing into the rocks, the blue sky and the nice breeze cooling us off and covering our faces with a salty spray.

On our way home, we looked out of the window and the clouds were just so funny, that I played around a bit, here is what I came up with 🙂
